Born Andrew Kaneb in Wellesley, Massachusetts, he began his musical journey at age seven playing the classical violin. Music became an easy passion from a young age. He went on to study at the New England Conservatory in Boston, performing in its youth program for four years and touring internationally in 2017. By the time he entered Princeton University, Andrews’ foundation in classical music was resolute — but heartbreak would steer him toward songwriting in an unexpected way.
The summer after his freshman year of college, while working alone on Cape Cod, he picked up a guitar for the first time due to grief over a relationship and his first love. What started as a way to process loss quickly grew into a full pursuit. He quickly devoured his father’s favorite records — the catalogs of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and The Beach Boys — channeling their influence into his earliest tracks. Within a year, he was performing across New York City, making his debut at The Bitter End in 2018 before finding himself at venues across town.
Now based in Brooklyn, Kaneb Andrews performs and records under his inverted name, a nod to the rarity of his surname. His music blends the narrative weight of classic singer-songwriters with modern indie rock’s dynamic energy, often backed by a full band of acoustic guitars and hushed drums. His sonic palette draws comparison to Coldplay, Noah Kahan, Wallows, Hozier, and The 1975.
Opening for acts within the indie Americana space like Texas King, Hush Club, and Copilot, Andrews has toured the East and West Coast, carving his name from location to location to showcase his strong live performance skills for thousands of new fans. Andrews is set to release a series of singles in 2025, beginning with “Midnight Medicine” and culminating in his new EP, False Prophets, this fall.
