Phil's a Long Island native. Instead of a music career, he chose wisely to pursue his college sweetheart, Lauren. Together, while raising 2 beautiful children, they fill their home with as much love and music as they can muster. A few years ago, Phil found himself back on stage in Patchogue at Bobbiques, performing weekly at the open mic night, a fortuitous moment that reignited his passion for music. Now 41, he’s writing and singing with renewed inspiration, driven by the family life. Phil wants his kids to see even modest goals can be achieved when the odds are long.
Phil was raised by two really great parents. His mom, Ellen, played the guitar, introducing him to the great story telling and folk music of the 70s. She taught him what she knew of the guitar, paving the way for something that’s helped him through the toughest times of his life. His dad, Frank, introduced him to every genre of music there was; the great American songbook, classical, opera, big band, Gospel, R&B, Soul and musical theatre. With as much music as he was surrounded by, his main goal however was to build a family for himself. Meeting his wife in college would prove to change his life in ways indescribable. They were just friends at the time but that would change, though not before both of them lived a little. Fortunately, and quite by surprise, the music career he put aside, began to grow with the life they were building. The pair even paid for a good chunk of their wedding gigging together at cafes on the south shore. Through his 30s, through pregnancies, kids, debt, a mortgage, a pandemic, illnesses and death, the need to have an outlet for it all became a relentless itch that needed scratching. He found odd job gigs at retirement homes and assisted living facilities, singing for Long Islands grandparents. It was enough at the time. After his mom passed, life led him back to where he needed to be. A chance meeting with someone who runs an open mic at Bobbiques in Patchogue, Mike Santa, would provide ample opportunity to scratch that itch. It taught him almost as much as any paid education could. Thankfully, one of the patrons at the bar shared the link to apply to the festival. Had it not been for her or his Bobbique family, a door to another musical room would not have been presented. Phil writes and sings from a place of intention and honesty. Just the opportunity to tell his stories is enough and that's the truth. Listen, laugh and be open to all possibilities, even if some mean you might have made the wrong choice. He hopes you’re able to hear his message and enjoy the show!
