Be it Solo, Duo, or full band performance, Byron Bay Australia’s Ray Red will implant pop songs into your brain before you know what’s happening. Growing up in an international community, Ray Red has aquired the fine art of entertaining an audience regardless of the local mother tongue. Byron Bay, being a backpackers Mecca, would be the proving ground for this art. “Everyone loves a great pop song, so when playing a multi-lingual crowd, oft times it’s best to play it straight down the middle.” Maybe not so over the top as “Mustang Sally”, but you can never go wrong with The Chili Peppers, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Ed Sheeran, or Black Eyed Peas to name a few. Each year, Red transverses the Pacific in search of the perfect gig! January is Summertime in Byron, so he’ll play that circuit untill Easter’s Blues and Roots Festival comes through town, and then off to Thailand where in addition to solo gigs, he fills in with two of the country’s foremost Beatles Tribute Bands, The Beatles Bangkok, and The Fab Four. The Hamptons, New York, U.S.A. Yes, this is where the real money is, and this is where Red gets to perform for all of “the beautiful people”. “4 months of private functions in The Hamptons can more than fund my entire year’s activities. Not to mention that each party grows legs and becomes several additional dates”. June – September are fully booked out every season. In addition to parties, Red books regular residency dates at SALT (Shelter Island), The Montauk Lake Club, The Canal Cafe in Hampton Bays, and The Clubhouse (East Hampton). The clientele at these venues seem to know who to ring for their events. In 2018, Ray Red won The Dan’s Paper’s (Local Free Press) Platinum Award for the Best Male Musician. 2018 was a banner year for the Ray Red Band, Mike LeClerc on Bass, James Benard on Drums, and Josh LeClerc on Electric guitar. 2019 is already gearing up to surpass these numbers.
